Tips for building good habits 🌱

This year didn’t start off too well for me, so I wasn’t able to do my usual yearly planning and goal-setting. To be honest, it threw me off a bit to jump into 2022 without doing any written reflections or creating a vision board, but I knew my biggest goal was just to get to Italy. 🇮🇹

I decided to do my best to incorporate healthy habits to establish a nice new routine in the new year. With the craziness of finishing work and getting everything ready for my move, it’s a bit difficult to stick with a routine or start new habits.

However, I’m excited to use my move to Italy as a time to readjust my habits and build a healthy routine abroad. Without the stress of a 9 to 5, I’m excited to focus on the things that truly bring me joy: language learning, creating content, eating good food, exploring new places, and spending quality time with my boyfriend. 🤍

Hi 👋🏼 my name is Shea and I’ve noticed a lot of new faces around here (almost at 6K of you now! 😱)

I want to thank you all for following me and give you some quick facts on who I am and where I’m headed this year:

✨I’m 25 and currently live in Los Angeles
✨I’ve been studying Italian for about 3 years and I’m at a B1 level
✨I’m moving to Bologna, Italy at the end of March to pursue my dreams of studying Italian there
✨My boyfriend and I have been fostering dogs so if you’re wondering why there are always so many dogs on my stories, now you know
✨Yes my boyfriend is coming to Italy with me
✨Yes I’m equally nervous and excited for what’s to come in 2022

Sometimes the fact that I’m moving to Italy still doesn’t feel real. I’m so excited to go on this adventure, and while I know it won’t always be easy, I can’t wait to take you all on this ride with me. For everyone asking if I will be sharing my experience through more instagram content and youtube videos, the answer is yes YES YES! 🎉 I am beyond excited to share this experience with all of you who have supported me this long and I’m also looking forward to documenting the ups and downs of this adventure for myself as well.

Can you learn Italian just by watching TV series?

Can you learn Italian just by watching TV series? 🇮🇹🤔

Short answer: No. However, watching TV series in your target language is extremely beneficial for language learning.

It provides the following benefits:
✨ exposure to the language
✨ comprehension
✨ pronunciation
✨ informal/conversational phrases
✨ new vocabulary

And the list goes on! Watching shows or movies is a great and engaging way to help learn a language. By combining learning with something you enjoy doing (like watching a show) you can get hours of “study” time just by watching TV!

The first Italian TV series I ever watched was Baby and I absolutely fell in love with it. I missed Italy so much, especially Rome where the show is set, so it gave me a little escape back into the Italian world with its beautiful shots of Rome, amazing soundtrack, and addicting storyline. I learned so many commonly used phrases (and many bad words 😂) from this series. Baby really motivated me to continue learning Italian because I loved the sound of the language and I knew I wanted to get back to Italy someday.

Overall, Netflix is an amazing way to find and watch series in all sorts of languages. Plus, most shows have dubs or subtitles available in various languages, so you can go back and rewatch your favorite English shows in another language!

I can’t remember the last time I went about my day without a to-do list. 😂

I write a to-do list everyday! It’s become part of my daily routine, even if I only have a few things to jot down on a notepad that day. Every Sunday I do a general plan of bigger things on Notion to get done during the week, but I also spend every morning mapping out my day.
